I'm very excited to be participating in Turua Gallery's 5th Birthday Show, Hip Hip Hooray, which opens on Friday 16th February. I will be showing my newest piece, Head of the Harbour, which features two of Auckland’s iconic volcanic cones: the distinctive form of Devonport's North Head/Maungauika, its cliff-top houses captured in detail, and the mighty Rangitoto that dominates the Auckland landscape.
This vista was inspired as I walked along Tāmaki Drive one morning and my eye was drawn to the contrast between the gentle contour of North Head and Rangitoto’s imposing presence. I have always been fascinated by the volcanoes that make Auckland’s geographical landscape unique. They are a constant in a city that is otherwise rapidly changing. I was stopped in my tracks by the way these two symbols of Tāmaki Makaurau overlap from this perspectiv.
Join me at the opening and you will be treated to a gorgeous collection of all new artworks from many of Turua Gallery’s artists, live music and birthday cake!
If you would like to see close ups or more photographs of my piece, feel free to contact me or request the exhibition catalogue from the gallery.
